Advanced Disciplines

After an apprentice spends two years in a waterfront trade program, they will become eligible for one of the advanced disciplines also known as an optional program. The criteria for selection includes academic grades, craft performance, attendance, and personal interest and aptitude. Admission into these programs is limited and on a competitive basis. Advanced discipline apprenticeships vary in length from four, five, or eight years.

ABOUT ADVANCED DISCIPLINES

Apprentices selected for the Advanced Optional Programs will spend about two years on the waterfront and the remainder of the apprenticeship in the optional program for which they are selected. Criteria for selection include academic grades, craft performance, attendance, personal interest, and aptitude for the work.
