After an apprentice spends two years in a waterfront trade program, they will become eligible for one of the disciplines also known as an optional program. The criteria for selection includes academic grades, craft performance, attendance, and personal interest and aptitude. Admission into these programs is limited and on a competitive basis. Optional discipline apprenticeships extend the apprenticeship experience an additional year*.
