Below are frequently asked questions for EDGE classes.
Can I apply to EDGE as a high school student?
Yes, as long as you are at least a high school junior and meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply for EDGE.
What if EDGE classes begin during/after my start-date?
Apprentices can take EDGE classes all the way until their normal WCSC academics start. Most apprentices do not begin classes for several months after their start-date. As an apprentice, you work in your trade for a few months before classes start, so you should have time to take at least one round of EDGE.
Is EDGE required for apprentices?
No. EDGE is an optional, online version of our courses, but HIGHLY encouraged due to the benefits outlined on this page. As an apprentice, you’ll eventually have to do these classes in-person. You will be granted credit for any EDGE classes you successfully complete. This will contribute towards your Apprentice School transcript and GPA.
Why should I take EDGE classes if I’m already an apprentice?
- #1 EDGE allows you to get a head-start on classes so that you can move through academics faster and spend more time in your trade, rather than sitting in a classroom, which many prefer.
- #2 EDGE classes give you the unique advantage of completing a course without fear of failing out of the program.
- Apprentices in normal WCSC classes are held to stricter academic standards because they are taking classes on-the-clock. Many apprentices use up their one-time course retake or limited # of Ds on courses in their 1st term, and then regret it when they reach more challenging classes like Physics or Mechanics. Sadly, some simply fail out of the program completely in 1st term.
- EDGE gives you the chance to avoid this because you can retake any classes that you don’t perform well in ahead of time and the highest grade you receive will be kept on your transcript! This is not the case in normal classes.
- Any final grades above a C in EDGE will exempt you from repeating the course when normal classes start. Any final grades below a C in EDGE will not be held against you.
- #3 EDGE courses are done on your own time and are asynchronous, so you don’t have to worry about missing an important class day because of travel for sports, practices, vacation, sick days, etc. and falling behind. All the material is built into the online course so you can teach yourself as long as you complete assignments by the deadline, whether that’s late-night after dinner, on Saturdays when you have free-time, or the middle of the day! (*Note: There are ~4 meetings per course that require you to log in online at a specific time for tests and one course that may require in-person meetings, however, these are always made clear on the application.)
EDGE can only help you, not hurt you!!

How do I submit official transcripts for EDGE?
- Official transcripts must come from your school itself, not from you. If you are a current apprentice, current/prior EDGE student, or already have a start-date with the school, you do not need to submit new transcripts.
- Option 1 (preferred): Ask your school’s guidance counselor to email an official copy of your transcript to [email protected]. Even if you have graduated high school, you may still request that they do this on your behalf.
- Option 2: Submit a request on Parchment.com. List all schools you have attended (high school or higher) and request that they send your transcripts to “The Apprentice School.” If you do this, email [email protected] with your name and the date you submitted the Parchment request.
- For any transcript issues or questions, please contact us by email.
How do I contact someone in EDGE?
- You may email questions to [email protected] or call us at 757-380-7991.
