Heavy metal fabricator apprentices learn the processes and procedures of the shipyard’s Steel Fabrication Shop and use tools and machines to cut, burn, bend, move and press steel into shapes needed for ship construction. They create a large portion of the parts and plates needed to build aircraft carriers and submarines.

The WCSC supports the entire apprentice program by providing each apprentice with the technical knowledge required for the mastery of a trade, and an opportunity to obtain an associate degree in business administration, engineering technology, or engineering. The curriculum provides the educational foundation necessary for continued growth throughout a career.
The Apprentice School is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
