Coatings specialist apprentices prepare and sandblast surfaces and select the methods of coating application. They apply special hull treatments to protect and enhance the operations and appearance of ships and learn to interpret paint schedules, estimate the amount of materials required and perform final quality inspections.
X331 Paint and Surface Preparation: 40 Hours, 2 Credits
X332 Blueprint Reading for Painters: 10 Hours, 1 Credit
The WCSC supports the entire apprentice program by providing each apprentice with the technical knowledge required for the mastery of a trade, and an opportunity to obtain an associate degree in business administration, engineering technology, or engineering. The curriculum provides the educational foundation necessary for continued growth throughout a career.
The Apprentice School is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
